What happens next is the body naturally reacts to the foreign object by using the bacteria present in the pores which unfortunately causes inflammation, thus a pimple is born. Pimples and acne are a result from hormonal imbalances, sedentary lifestyle or improper diet combined with other factors. While treating the root cause of pimples may take time, there are various natural pimple treatments that can be used to soothe or get rid of the pimple very quickly. Natural Treatments: Aloe Vera: The liquid extract or gel from Aloe-Vera plant is excellent for soothing individual pimples and acne as well as helping to prevent a breakout. The skin absorbs this gel 4x’s faster than water, plus the ingredients in the gel soothe the irritated pores. The excellent anti-bacterial properties of the gel reduces the inflammation by quickly penetrating through several layers of tissues and breaking up residue, dead cells and destroying the bacteria. You can also create other home-made remedies to soothe inflammation of the pimple without it scarring. Some examples: Hold an ice cube against the pimple will reduce the redness but it may not eliminate the pimple entirely. A teaspoon of juice from crushed cilantro or mint leaves combined with a pinch of powdered turmeric, when applied on the pimple reduces the inflammation and redness of the pimple. Applying lemon juice on the pimple for about fifteen minutes is an effective remedy to treat the pimple without scarring. The citric acid in the lemon juice is a great exfoliant. Garlic can be applied topically by rubbing crushed garlic on the pimple. It will reduce inflammation and prevent the infection from causing a breakout. A paste made from crushed cinnamon and honey is also effective in treating individual pimples. Apply this paste on the pimple for 15 minutes and then wash it with water. Cinnamon has natural anti-bacterial properties, which reduces the pimple quickly and gives a clear skin. Most importantly, never try to burst the pimple as this will spread the infection and cause scarring. However, natural treatments may be effective against individual pimples but they are not as effective against moderate or severe forms of acne such as cystic acne. Conventional Treatments: In cases of mild acne, benzoyl peroxide solution is considered particularly effective, but it has its share of controversies. It is known to cause side-effects like skin irritation, blistering, reddening and discoloration of hair clothes or any product that comes in contact with it. Studies are also being conducted to investigate if the free radicals, produced in the skin by benzyl peroxide, will cause skin cancer. In the case of a severe form of acne called cystic acne, utmost care needs to be exercised. If not treated immediately, these can leave a permanent acne scar on the skin. Hence, powerful oral medications like isotretinoin are recommended by the dermatologists, which act swiftly against the infection and prevent scarring. However, isotretinoin is known to cause birth defects and should not be taken by pregnant women. Finally, drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily, intake of nutritious well balanced diet and a healthy fitness regimen helps maintain pimple and acne free skin, naturally. Stereotypes of Latinos in Television and Film Latinos may now be the largest racial minority in the United States, but their rise in numbers hasn’t necessarily made it easier for them to challenge stereotypes. Racial stereotypes about Latinos abound in television and film. This overview of the most common Hispanic stereotypes portrayed in the media- from maids to gangbangers- reveals why sweeping generalizations about Latinos are harmful.​ All Maids All the Time In the earlier days of television and film, African Americans were the racial group most likely to portray domestic workers. Black housekeepers played key roles in television sitcoms such as 1950’s â€Å"Beulah† and films such as 1939’s â€Å"Gone With The Wind.† By the 1980s, however, Latinos increasingly replaced blacks as Hollywood’s domestics. The 1987 TV show â€Å"I Married Dora† was even about a man who married his Latina housekeeper to prevent her from being deported. Even megastar Jennifer Lopez played a housekeeper in 2002’s â€Å"Maid in Manhattan,† a romantic comedy reminiscent of the Cinderella fairytale. The late actress Lupe Ontiveros estimated that she played a maid as many as 150 times on screen. In 2009, Ontoveros  told National Public Radio, â€Å"I long to play a judge. I long to play a lesbian woman. I long to play a councilman, someone with some chutzpah.† Latin Lovers Hollywood has a long history of portraying Hispanics and Spaniards as Latin Lovers. Men such as Antonio Banderas, Fernando Lamas, and Ricardo Montalban all starred in a number of roles that perpetuated the idea that Hispanic men are incredibly suave, sexy and skilled in the sheets. The stereotype became so popular that a film called â€Å"Latin Lovers† debuted in 1958. Ricardo Montalban and Lana Turner starred. Tired of being typecast as a Latin Lover, Fernando Lamas, father of actor Lorenzo Lamas, told the Free Lance-Star in 1958 that he wanted to redefine the term. â€Å"A Latin lover shouldn’t be a greasy character,† he said. â€Å"He doesn’t even have to be Latin. But he must be a guy who loves life, and since life includes women, his loves include women. Sometimes he gets a girl and sometimes he gets his face slapped. The most important thing is that he be a real man with problems to solve.† Sexpots While Hispanic men are often reduced to Latin Lovers in television and film, Hispanic women are commonly typecast as sexpots. Rita Hayworth, Raquel Welch, and Carmen Miranda are some of the Latinas in early Hollywood who capitalized on their sexy image. More recently, Eva Longoria played a conniving Latina homemaker who used her looks to advance her agenda in â€Å"Desperate Housewives,† and Sofia Vergara continues to play the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on â€Å"Modern Family,† which many prominent Latinas argue not only fuels the stereotype that Hispanic women are sexy but also loud, crazy and spicy. â€Å"The problem here is that this idea of the curvy, sexy and sultry Latina denies many Latinas their cultural identification based on their physical appearances and sexual attractiveness, alone,† explained Tanisha Ramirez in the Huffington Post. â€Å"In essence, this sort of thinking traps our culture within our bodies, ignoring the values, ethics, and tr aditions that contribute to our sense of culture and community.† Thug Life There has been no shortage of Latinos playing thugs, drug dealers and gangbangers in U.S. films and television shows, especially police dramas. Popular films such as 1992’s â€Å"American Me† and 1993’s â€Å"Mi Vida Loca† chronicled the lives of fictional Hispanic drug kingpins and gangsters. Even the 1961 classic â€Å"West Side Story† centered on the rivalry between a Caucasian gang and a Puerto Rican one. The gangster stereotype aimed at Latinos is particularly harmful, as it gives the public the idea that Hispanics aren’t law-abiding citizens but cholos. Accordingly, they should be feared, shunned and certainly not treated as equals. While some Latinos, just as some whites, find themselves entangled in the criminal justice system, the majority of Hispanics aren’t criminals. They work as lawyers, teachers, pastors, police officers and in a host of other areas. Immigrants Television programs such as â€Å"The George Lopez Show,† â€Å"Desperate Housewives† and â€Å"Ugly Betty† were unique in that they portrayed Latinos as Americans rather than as recent immigrants to the United States. Not only have many Hispanics lived in the United States for several generations but some Hispanics also descend from families that predate the establishment of the present day U.S.-Mexico border. For far too long Hollywood has featured Hispanics speaking heavily accented English in television and in cinema. Lupe Ontiveros told NPR that during auditions casting directors made it clear that they prefer her to play immigrant types. Before auditioning, she’d ask them, â€Å"‘You want an accent?’ And they’d say, ‘Yes, we prefer for you to have an accent.’ And the thicker and more waddly it is, the more they like it. This is what I’m against, really, truly.†

Definition and understanding To begin with, it is worth understanding what the term â€Å"leadership† means. There are hundreds of definitions out there related to this term, but each of them differs from one to another. The most appealing definition I found is the one from Don Clark of Big Dog Leadership. He defines leadership as a â€Å"process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent. † My interest to this definition resides in the way the author refers to some important elements of leadership such as influence, people, and objective. â€Å"Of Mice And Men† written by John Steinbeck was set in 1930’s in America, in a time which came to be known as ‘The Depression’. It was a time of severe financial hardship, which caused thousands of people to lose their jobs and homes. Families were often broke up as men were forced to become migrant workers in order to survive. Also, the cultural climate was different. Minority groups, such as black people, women, or people with learning difficulties would be subjected to prejudice as a matter of course. During the 1930s, life was difficult, many people kept their lives going with dreams, this depressing period was gave rise to what became known as ‘The American Dream’. The American Dream was the idea of escaping that time of loneliness and depression by getting your own home that you and your family would never have to leave. The novel’s most important characters, George and Lennie, share a dream for one day to own their own ranch and â€Å"live off the fatta the lan†. They want to become the boss of their own ranch also their own boss and have a dream house. In the novel, George and Lennie’s dream was the closest to ‘The American Dream’ than anyone else in Of Mice and Men. It was very important to both of them. Lennie normally remembers nothing through his life except for this, this meant that it was very important to him-his and Lennie’s ‘American Dream’. â€Å"Lennie broke in. ‘But not us! An’ why? Because..because I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you and that’s why.’ He laughed delightedly, ‘Go on now George! You got it by heart you can do it yourself!† George and Lennie use the story as a way to help them get by at times to help both of them get through tough times. â€Å"George’s voice became deeper. He repeated his words rhythmically as though he had said them many times before. ‘Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don’t belong in no place. They come to a ranch an’ work up a stake and then they go into a town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know, they’re poundin’ their tails on some other ranch. They ain’t got nothing to look ahead to.† â€Å"Some day,-we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs.† In Chapter three, George and Lennie allow Candy to join in their dream. Candy wants to join them because he knows that he is useless, he has nothing in life to live for and he is also too old. But he is afraid that if he is useless and everyone else knows it, the others will kick him out of the ranch and he does not want that to happen so he tries to join in with George and Lennie’s dream. â€Å"Tell you what†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢S’pose I went in with you guys. That’s three hundred an’ fifty bucks I’d put in. I ain’t much good, but I could cook and tend the chickens and hoe the garden some. How’d that be?† â€Å"When they can me here, I wisht somebody’d shoot me. But they won’t do nothing like that. I won’t have no place to go, an I can’t get no more jobs.† While the ranch-hands never openly discuss their loneliness, Curley’s wife spends most of her time in the novel searching for company. She always looks for Curley around the ranch when she already knows he’s not there. â€Å"I’m tryin’ to find Curley, Slim’ ‘Well, you ain’t tryin very hard. I seen him goin’ in your house.† She is the only female there; therefore she has no one to talk to and not much company so she flirts with the other men to help her communicate with them which is the only thing she wants, someone to talk to and listen to her. Curley’s wife thought that she would have everything to live for, after marrying Curley but which it turned out wrong, horribly wrong, she’s with a man who doesn’t even love her and spends a lot of his time without her, especially that all she needs is attention. â€Å"Curley’s wife lay with a half-covering of yellow hay. And the meanness and the planning and the discontent and the ache for attention were all gone from her face.† Crooks, the negro stable buck, is an obviously lonely character, he does not interact with any other people because of the colour of his skin and he knows everyone will treat him badly because of it. So he is forced to be alone. Even when Lennie tries to make friends with him, Crooks argues right back at him because of the way he was treated as nothing. â€Å"Lennie smile helplessly in an attempt to make friends. Crooks said sharply ‘You got no right to come in my room. This here’s my room. Nobody got any right in here but me.† When Crooks was at his childhood, he actually played and was mainly around other white children until their parents told them about the issue and not to mix in with other black children, that is what Crooks wants now, to be accepted. The impact of the dreams: None of the characters in the novel actually achieve their dreams, despite coming very close on occasions. George and Lennie try to fulfil ‘The American Dream’ but Lennie soon dies, so George cannot accomplish his dream without Lennie especially as the dream is most important to Lennie, despite these characters coming very close to the dream. When Lennie died, George made sure he died happily with their dream in memory. â€Å"We’ll have a cow,’ said George, ‘An we’ll have maybe a pig an’ chickens†¦ an’ down the flat we’ll have a†¦. little piece alfafa†¦Ã¢â‚¬  This is where we see them discussing the dream one last time. â€Å"Lennie begged, ‘Le’s do it now. Le’s get the place now.’ ‘Sure, right now. I gotta, We gotta.’ And George raised the gun and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie’s head.† Curley’s Wife also wanted to be famous, glamorous and to be wanted but she gets accidentally killed by Lennie so she also cannot achieve her dream, but in other words, she is also escaping from a miserable life with Curley. Candy is also in on the dream with George and Lennie, but when Lennie dies, Curley knows the dream is no more without him. â€Å"Now Candy spoke his greatest fear. ‘You an’ me can get the little place can’t we, George? You an’ me can go there an’ live nice, can’t we, George, can’t we?’ Before George answered, Candy dropped his head and looked down at the hay. He knew.† John Steinbeck chose to have all the main characters’ dreams come to nothing because that is what life is, especially the serious issues, such as: Women, Black people and People with learning difficulties.
